WNM King of Cups WNM River Trip est. 1974
Home base

Hauli Huvila

A private campground on the Kings River, run by a warm group of Finns. This is where we cook, camp, and cool off between floats.

Duck! Mind the low-hanging trestle.
That old railroad trestle on the way into camp has peeled the roof off our float truck twice. Roll in slow and keep the tall loads low.

What's on the grounds

Old-school glamping — more comfortable than you'd think.

Where you'll sleep

Mostly a tent trip, with a couple of alternatives that take some planning.

Pitch a tent

The main event. Tons of shaded space under the grapevines and oaks. Bring your tent and claim a spot.

"Cement tents"

Not a camper? The Edgewater Inn sits just across the highway. Book early to be sure — you can always cancel.

Cabin lottery

Four cabins right on the grounds, awarded by lottery to long-time campers. Details just below.

No RVs — not enough room No pets or comfort animals

The Hauli cabin lottery

Been on the trip five years or more (they don't have to be in a row)? You can enter for one of four cabins right on the campground. Here's how it works.

{{ step.n }} {{ step.body }}
The large cabin$150
per night
The small cabins$100
per night
Jarmo's mökki$30
per night · the tiny one

You don't get to pick which one you're drawn — you're either down with your cabin or it's on to the next. Pay WNM directly and we settle up with the Hauli Huvila leadership after camp. Questions on the grounds? Our caretaker Brian is your person.

a bit of lore: legend holds that Jarmo built his mökki — a one-man cabin barely bigger than the man himself — on strict orders from his wife, a refuge for the nights he rolled in from the sauna far too late and far too loud to be allowed back in the big cabin.

Off the water

There's just as much going on back at camp as there is on the river.

The camp games

Our tournaments run all weekend and get properly competitive. Champions are crowned Saturday night — including the storied water-balloon toss.

Saturday night

the big one

The whole camp gathers for our Saturday night ceremony. We crown the tournament champs, welcome the rookies into the fold, tell the stories that keep getting taller, hand out a few special awards, and — if we're lucky — someone brings the talent. You'll just have to come see it.
